DESIGN CONSULTATIONS

Congratulations! Starting a new design project is an exciting time and we’re thrilled
you’re considering Nine Dot Design as a partner in your process.

Our design consultations are an integral part of beginning any new project.

WHAT IS A DESIGN CONSULTATION?

During a consultation, our founder and principal designer, Kaitlin Thomas, will meet you for a 1-hour walk through of your space. This is our chance to get into the details and see first hand what magic we can work. It’s during this time that we will talk through your vision for your project and begin discussing the possibilities. Consider it an easy way to dip your toes into the design waters before making a larger time and money investment.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

Our consultations roughly follow this schedule:

Introductions: 5 minutes

This will be the first opportunity for you and Kaitlin to meet. It’s important that you feel comfortable and aligned with whomever you choose to work with as you’ll be spending a lot of time together throughout our project!

Walk Through: 40 minutes

The majority of your time together is spent walking through your space. This is your chance to share what you like, what you don’t like, and what you’re hoping to achieve by working with a designer. It’s okay if you don’t exactly know what you’re after. Kaitlin brings a wealth of experience that will help guide the conversation. She will also be able to share insights and ideas you may not yet have considered. You’ll find that being in the space together truly enables you and Kaitlin to see how a project may come to life.

Close Out: 15 minutes

Before wrapping up your consultation, you will spend time with Kaitlin talking in more detail about the process of working with Nine Dot Design. She will talk you through how our team works, our areas of expertise, and what a typical design project of your scope may look like. You’ll also have a brief discussion about timing and budget where Kaitlin will also be able help to set expectations to achieve your goals. This time is also an opportunity to share any inspiration images you may have gathered or ask any additional questions
you may have.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After your design consultation, it’s time for us to put our heads down and pull together a proposal based on what you’ve shared. We’ll give you a sense for how we think we’d approach your project, how much time we’d estimate to complete the job, and a budget range we believe can get you to your goals. For design projects, we’ll be able to get fairly specific about our plans for furnishing and decor of the space. For remodeling projects, we’ll provide a recommendation for which projects to prioritize and how to best get started. At this stage, our aim is to give you an idea of what to expect without setting anything in stone. Our aim is to provide you with enough direction for you to best evaluate how to move your project forward.

WHAT TO PREPARE?

In order to get the most out of your design consultation, it can be helpful to take some time thinking through your vision, goals, and resources for your project. We recommend coming to the meeting having considered the following questions:

  • What do you like about your space and what is it that you would like to change?

  • Who will be occupying the space and how will it be used?

  • Do you have a timeline in mind or any deadlines for completing your project?

  • What budget are you comfortable with spending to get to your desired outcome?

  • Do you have any visuals or inspiration images that you would like to share?
A Pinterest board can be a great tool for this!

    HOW DO I GET STARTED?

While we love a good open house as much as the next person, we unfortunately can’t fit in every tour. To help us make room for the right clients, we ask for a $250 fee to get your design consultation on the books.
